When I first started, some 19 years ago, I literally did not know how to Turn on a computer. My son had to show me how and coax me to keep it turned on.
When I got over that hurdle, I took a good look around and saw that everyone all over the net seemed to be selling something online.
I thought to myself, I can do that but I got stuck. I had no clue how to start.
After much hemming and hawing and hesitation, I put down $247.00 bucks on something called a safe list. I had no idea what a safe list was but it came into my email and I thought - what's the worst that can happen?
I could lose $247.00 that's what could happen, I thought, and that was not an insignificant sum back then, but I decided to take a risk and plunge right in.
As luck would have it, the developer of the safe list that I bought was Phil Basten, who is now my partner.
I bugged Phil every day on a funny little chatbox called MSN. I tried to learn all I could from him and while I was learning I also got on the phone with a guy named Mike Glaspie.
I had no clue who Mike was but, as I did with Phil, I began to bug him with emails asking him questions about what, why, when, how, where, and who.
He always responded to me with great patience for which I will forever be thankful. Finally, Mike said to me:
"Jane, you need to get your own website. That is the only way you will make any real dough online."
So I did what he said. I created the ugliest website you have ever seen using some old fashioned website creator, and I started promoting it to my safe list members and some of them actually responded by buying some of the things I was talking to them about.
That was thrilling.
Long story short. I took a chance.
I had no clue what I was doing.
I just jumped in with two feet and never looked back over 19 years online, and that has made all the difference.>
